Up until the early 1950's it was possible to glimpse elephants on the streets of Australian cities. They were circus animals. But an urban sighting was a rare thrill.
I love everything about this Jane. Elephants are the most wonderful gentle animals. It’s amazing how they mourn for their dead. I remember as a child the circus would set up across the road from our house. That’s where I’d be found, day after day, just watching the elephants. I’m so happy now that they are no longer exploited in that way
Jane to be frank I think it's a tragedy that such majestic animals have been held captive to die in captivity only to be treated as a curiosity simply for the pleasure of the human animal! None the less a well research article. I for one do not support circus that use animals as entertainment ... Cirque du Soleil has it right!
Fabulous article, Jane. Well done!
Thank-you Mark, for all your help and encouragement.
A fabulous story. Many thanks Jane. It reminds me of home where elephants are still revered.
Thanks Sadha, yes you are lucky to come from a place where elephants still roam!
