This is a fabulous piece and wonderful advice not only to writers, but all creatives and anyone just asked to speak to the press. Oh, and ”breathe”... why didn't anybody tell me that earlier?

It's wonderful having a pro like you, Jane, be such an active part of this community. Thank you.

You are already a pro Barbara, but this might be helpful to others starting their journey to 'show your work' as the wonderful @austinkleon urges us to do.

Oh yes, "work is about process, not about product," that really is a very big idea. Here on Substack, we see a huge, HUGE, number of folks making money from the topic of... well, how to make money... on Substack. I think that's a bit of a disservice to the good work of creatives.

What I love about what you're doing is coming into this with your strong background as a pro and showing folks the inside view of how it's done. That's actually quite different and a welcome breath of fresh air. (See how I did that? Breathe... 😉)

In my queue of things to do, by the way, is a little cheat sheet for workarounds to annoying bugs/behaviors here in Substack. One is that @notifications don't work in comments but they do in Notes (ditto formatting, but links work). Why? I have no idea. So while @austinkleon doesn't call him up, austinkleon.substack.com IS auto-linked, and I was glad I explored, I expect your followers will be too. 😊

Oh, wow. You should do a cheat-sheet. But thanks for teaching me that! And many more things besides 🌻

Thanks for another wonderful piece, Jane. I loved the question about your mother, too. We need to catch up ... I am so sorry that I wasn't able to get to any of the performances ... your mother's story intrigues me.
