What an incredible adventure, Jane. Jet-lagged and hiking straight off the plane, now that’s as impressive as the Midnight Night sun over Rekvikeidet! It sounds like you could travel through a couple of countries and experience the culture and the scenery. I have family living in the Lofoten Islands, an archipelago off the coast of Norway. We can compare Scandinavian stories, as I’m heading there again soon. Breathtaking scenery, so worth the travel if you ever go back to Scandinavia. What’s insightful from my experience of ‘No Small Talk And Other Rules,’ is learning how these ‘rules’ of communication impact the work environment. So different from other countries. One last morsel on the Substack smörgåsbord from me is about silicon ABBA. If you ever get a chance to see the ABBA avatar show, those silicon sculptures come to life and sing like they did in 1970s. It made me return to teenage angst all over again! Best wishes for your Seymour Centre event.
Hi Pete! I will be getting in touch with you shortly to talk about timing for our podcast episode. And WOW you get to visit the Lofoten Islands?!! I'm so envious. I dream about those Islands. That landscape is seared into my heart. Can't wait to reconnect with you and thanks, as always for reading. Give Pippa a pat for me.
Thank you for the when about the midnight sun and the implications of long daylight days. I did not expect to see a rune as a marker stone!
The house on the rock doubling as a beacon for boats at night is novel. The mooring for their boat would be at best a boat shed. The red cabin as shelter for hikers makes the tiny home even more of an option for travellers!
Jane, So interesting to read another’s point of view! I called Norway home for 17 years, still do, even though I’m living back in Australia.
Jantesloven fascinating and it ran deep where we lived. I’d been aware of an underlying ‘something’, never mentioned, always there. I continually dismissed it, until one day walking with 2 Norwegian friends, from Oslo area but with local roots, they alluded to undertones within the community. Thankfully I knew them well enough to delve snd there it was!! That day I also learnt there was a class culture as well. Strong as, but never mentioned!!
I have been so fortunate to see the lighthouse, numerous times, have surperb pictures of Lofoten as well as numerous other locations throughout the length and breadth of Norway, my home.
You did it proud Jane!
However smorgasbord, I understood to be Swedish, and the first time I went walking with my Norwegian husband, we met a Swedish walker, as we chatted afterwards, he said ‘the only good thing about the Swedish, are its neighbours’. That knocked me for six!!
So much to love about Scandinavia❤️
I’m soon to take tours over to show others the magic.
Yes you are right Jenny, Smorgasbord is Swedish, but still in Scandinavia... I did a bit of a mashup of my experiences. How wonderful that you lived there for 17 years. I dream about the Lofoten islands. I am looking forward to seeing your tours. By the way, I just posted your book today! Thanks so much for connecting Jenny. Are you going to start a substack?
Thanks alot I do look forward to your book. I did a very short stint interviewing on Radio 4HI in Central Qld and throughly enjoyed it without any training what so ever!!
My goodness I’d not thought about that!! Not too sure what it entails!! I’d better look into it!!
What a fascinating trip you had Jane. Such a unique place to visit.
The ABBA sculpture is so lifelike and beautiful. I can't say that Scandinavia is on my bucket list but I do love watching any Nordic dramas that SBS OnDemand has on offer. Cheers!

There are some pearlers in this ‘smorgasbord’.

And Munch’s art to finish.
Thank-you Carolyn. Hope you are well.

I love travelling in Scandinavia but must admit that my visit to the ABBA Museum in Stockholm last year was a highlight of our visit there.
